THE INDESTRUCTIBLE PHONE
by Aulistar Mark
Indestructible as long as you avoid large explosions and dropping it from the top of a sky scraper the Casio Exilim Mobile phone is the final solution to the clumsy phone user that can't help but repeatedly drop their phones onto floors, or the notorious "it fell in the toilet" excuse often given to mobile retailers when a customer comes in with a phone that no longer turns on.
Almost everyone either knows someone who has broken a cell phone or has broken one themselves, and Casio has stepped in to snatch a share of the market for gadget users who don't particularly care how sexy their device looks nor how many smudges they can make on a touch screen. The Casio's greatest hurtle is its lack of overload of features we've come to expect from our phones that make almost make them as versatile as carrying a laptop around with you. What it does have however, and what Casio and Verizon will keep reminding you, being that it's their main selling point, is a 5.1 megapixel camera and a military grade level of durability.
This is not just a flash bulb and a lens attached to the backside of a flip phone however as the camera in itself deserves just as much praise if for nothing else than its equal durability and the fact that it's also a phone. All the bells and whistles you'd expect from a standard commercial camera are there sporting a 3x optical zoom, image stabilizer, video recording and even a TV out function. Additionally the best shot mode and slide show function offer a very useful function with the best shot mode adjusting the various lighting settings so your pictures come out just right, and a practically useless one as the Slide Show Function turns your Exilim mobile into a digital photo frame for all those times you happen to not be in need of a phone or a camera. The phone is equally as standard with the latest options and features expected from a phone like a GPS, web browser, music player, visual voicemail and Bluetooth 2.0.
However this two for one gadget deal isn't for someone looking for the best of the best in either the phone of camera category, but rather for someone who doesn't feel like carrying both a cell phone, and a relatively powerful camera around with them. Many people run into situations where they want to take a picture of something interesting on the street, and many make do with the grainy pixilated pictures that are often associated with mobile phones including many smart phones, but with the Casio Exilim Mobile this problem is voided out of existence.
The final selling point is a series of military tests that were conducted in order to test that the device was as durable as Casio claimed. These tests included submerging the phone in water with the ports closed for 30 minutes. Dropping it from a height of 4 feet 26 times at various angles; powering it on and off each time. Testing it in a salt, and de-ionized water mist or rather a salt fog. Putting it through 95% humidity conditions changing the temperature back and forth from 86 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit, and beating it with solar radiation in 24 hour cycles. It's safe to say there won't be too many warrantees accounted for and for that, fellow klutzes around the world have reason to scream in joy.

OBAMA HEALTH PLAN
by Aulistar Mark
President Obama's Health reform plan was promised during his election campaign last year. It appears it's time for those promises to be brought into fruition as Obama currently struggles to appease both the American public, and the political powerhouses of Washington with a health plan that hopefully by the end of the negotiations will help over 45 million Americans gain health coverage and keep the bull charge to a $12 Trillion national debt at bay.
The opponents to the health reform plan namely the right wing republicans, and sects of conservative democrats are using the leverage of increased Federal expenditure to leverage their argument however the underlying fact is that the health insurance industry is sure to suffer from the reform by being forced to stabilize their prices, and function more efficiently as more people lose coverage due to unemployment and are picked up by this possible new system.
Though Obama has stated that he can't guarantee the health care system would stay the same after the reforms take place he has said that any changes made would be change for the better. Republicans have said that many Americans like the current system and that a Government funded health care system would take the choice of whom. and where American patients receive treatment away from them. Although in reality there are already many cases of the government, and insurance companies restricting which doctors, and practices patients can see.
This holds especially true for low income families that are provided health insurance through organizations like the Charter Oak group who work through the Aetna insurance company based in Hartford, CT the insurance capital of the U.S., but those holding their Charter Oak, and Aetna branded insurance cards are limited to only certain practices within the state of Connecticut. Change was the rallying cry of the Obama Campaign and now his power of will to force that change is being tested. We definitely are living in a interesting time.
