Tyler Perry's latest headline is not related to his stellar productions and philanthropic efforts, instead he's become the latest target of a lawsuit. The actor and screenwriter is being taken to court for copyright infringement for his film “Diary of A Mad Black Woman.”
Donna West claims that his production was a rip-off of a script she wrote titled “Fantasy of a Black Woman.” The script was turned into a free stage play based mainly on her life and performed in 1991. According to West, Tyler or someone else in his camp saw the play and stole her idea.
She testified in court saying,
“I can't put my play on because the stories are basically the same and nobody wants to see that again.”
"Diary" was released in 2005 and earned $50 million at the box office. Ms. West is being asked to be awarded all profits from the movie.
The case is expected to be completed by next Tuesday.
